The Musée d'art de Pully presents Come-back! L'art figuratif en Suisse: une scène au féminin, an exhibition that brings together around thirty artists of various generations to provide an overview of the state of contemporary figurative painting in Switzerland. Marked by a strong female presence, this art scene emancipates itself from the legacy of Swiss geometric formalism and turns toward a postmodern aesthetic based on deconstruction and cultural hybridization.
The exhibited works, rich in diverse references – Japanese manga, American series, digital culture, feminist podcasts – draw freely from popular culture, political and social current events, as well as the personal experiences of the artists. This mixture leads to a new iconography in which intuition and emotion prevail, and the boundaries between high and low culture are deliberately ignored.
Complementing the works of contemporary artists, the exhibition highlights formative role models from Switzerland and abroad who have influenced the visual worlds and artistic practices of the featured generation. These works, which come from generous loans, enrich the visual dialogue and anchor the new generation in both the continuity and history of contemporary painting.
